"Sunday in Seconds", a poem by Tim Suermondt

Church half empty,
but the birds are on the roof,
in droves, giving their own sermon.

A couple at the street corner,
each one holding a book.

The man in need of a victory
nurses a beer at the sports bar,
hoping his team can help save him.

An activist hands out flyers
as if nothing in the world matters more.

The poet battles with a truculent line,
goes to escape in the park,
the muse by his side all day, all day.
