ERIC Documents
ERIC
(Education Resources Information Center) is the major database produced by the
United States Department of Education. It indexes more than one million abstracts of journal
articles and other publications on education research and practice.
Information in ERIC corresponds to two printed abstract/index journals:
Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE) and Resources in Education (RIE).
- Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE), 1969+ .
CIJE indexes journal articles from more than 600 journals in Education and related fields.
For references to articles from recent years, use Education Full Text and other databases
in addition to ERIC. If an ERIC number starts with EJ, it's a record for a journal
article.
- Resources in Education (RIE), 1966+ .
The RIE subfile includes records of many different types of documents:
research reports, bibliographies, speeches, syllabi, glossaries, conference papers, and
various other kinds of publications. More than 115,000 full-text non-journal documents
issued from 1993 to current are also available. If an ERIC number starts with ED,
it's an ERIC document.
The ERIC documents microfiche collection is housed in the Periodicals
Section on the lower level of the University Library where the fiches are filed in cabinets
in numerical order by ED number.
In addition to the free version of ERIC, University at Albany users can access
the ERIC database via EBSCOhost. Guide to
searching EBSCOhost databases is available at Database Tutorials page.
