Call for Papers & Abstract Submission

As an initiative of the Mellon Foundation Grant, the UAlbany Department of Africana, Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies, Africana Studies is hosting a Research Day on Gender, Sexuality, Heritage, Identity/Ethnicity: a Quest for Understanding on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

This event will be offered both in-person and virtually and is open to all SUNY students and students from non-SUNY schools in the Capital District.

In this Call for Papers, we invite the submission of research papers that demonstrate the themes of gender, sexuality, heritage, and identity/ethnicity. Through a multidisciplinary approach and world-views framework, we encourage research that emphasizes diverse perspectives and promotes multivocality.  We are also keenly interested in papers in the field of Africana/Black Studies.

Undergraduate and Graduate Students interested in presenting should submit a 250-300 word abstract to Dr. Jennifer J. Thompson Burns using the form below by August 30. Papers must then be submitted by September 20.

Abstract submissions must include your:

  • full name
  • institutional affiliation
  • academic email address
