Call for Papers & Abstract Submission

Africana Studies at The University at Albany, SUNY, is hosting a student conference on Saturday, November 2, 2024, on the following theme: “RESEARCH DAY ON GENDER, SEXUALITY, HERITAGE, IDENTITY/ETHNICITY: A QUEST FOR UNDERSTANDING”  

In this Call for Abstracts, we invite submissions that demonstrate the themes of gender, sexuality, heritage, and identity/ethnicity. Through a multidisciplinary approach and world-views framework, we encourage research that emphasizes diverse perspectives and promotes multivocality. We are also keenly interested in research papers in the field of Africana/Black Studies.  As an initiative of the Mellon Foundation Grant awarded to the UAlbany Department of Africana Studies, this event, to be offered both in-person and virtually, is open to all SUNY Africana/Black Studies students and to students from non-SUNY schools in the Capital District, and will be held on the UAlbany campus, 1400 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12222. 

Undergraduate and Graduate Students interested in presenting papers, should submit a 250-300 word abstract by October 12, 2024.

Abstract submissions must the student's:

  • full name
  • institutional affiliation
  • academic email address
  • phone number
  • abstract and/or paper
  • an indication if the paper will be delivered in-person or virtually.
