Life in the Capital of New York
Albany has been named one of the best places to live in the country by U.S. News and World Report.
New York’s capital city is at the center of upstate’s Capital Region, which is home to over 1 million people. More than 17,000 students and 4,000 employees study and work on UAlbany's three campuses.
Excellent restaurants, shopping, museums, parks, concerts, food trucks, bike trails, theatre and even cross-town sports rivalries are all part of what makes this area so unique.
The Capital Region is within reach of exceptional skiing, snowboarding and hiking in the Adirondacks, Catskills and Berkshires. New York City, Boston and Montreal are all about 3 hours away from Albany and easily accessible by bus or train.

"An excellent public transportation system, many community organizations, lots of local fairs and festivals, splash pads at the parks for the kids, farmers markets everywhere on every day of the week, and small local businesses to support.
We moved to the region because of its amenities and affordability. Being able to transition careers at UAlbany has been a fantastic bonus."

"The Capital Region has such a great blend of city and country, from good restaurants to farms bringing produce locally to the farmers markets.
