Society for Neuroscience Hudson-Berkshire Chapter

 

On Saturday, September 21, 2024, the Life Sciences Research Building hosted the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience Hudson-Berkshire Chapter. Under the leadership of the current President Dr. Annalisa Scimemi, the chapter has made significant contributions over the past ten years to the local neuroscience community, including:

 

  • Organizing ten Annual Meetings, each attracting over 100 attendees and featuring at least 30 poster presentations, all offered free of charge for registration and membership.
  • Inviting more than twelve keynote science and nonscience speakers and eighty local neuroscience presenters.
  • Sponsoring 40 travel awards for trainees, totaling $6,000.
  • Promoting non-profit organizations such as the Alzheimer’s Association, Epilepsy Foundation, and American Heart Association.
  • Developing and maintaining a comprehensive website and active social media presence.
  • Advertising job opportunities.
  • Fostering effective scientific collaboration. 

During the event the Society for Neuroscience Hudson-Berkshire Chapter announced the recipients of the 2024 Best Poster Awards. Among the awardees was Maurice Petroccione, a doctoral student in Dr. Scimemi’s lab, who received the Nature Neuroscience Award. Before joining UAlbany’s MCDN Ph.D. program, Maurice completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, Currently, Maurice’s research is focusing on Studying the Functional Properties of Brain Synapses In vitro and In vivo, in Health and Disease.

  • Maurice Petroccione (SUNY Albany/Scimemi Lab) - PhD student

The meeting was sponsored by Evident, Krackeler Scientific, Albany Medical College, Skidmore College and the Department of Biological Sciences at SUNY Albany.
