Homeland Security Leaders Tour ETEC

Senior officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency and New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services toured ETEC on Tuesday, February 15 to learn about the collaborative research and education happening now inside the new $180 million facility.
According to CEHC Dean Bob Griffin, “The resulting discussions provided great insight into the ways CEHC, the NYS Mesonet, ASRC, and DAES can support our nation’s efforts. From data aggregation and distribution, better visualization tools and AI opportunities, to building greater resiliency, addressing inequities and getting ahead of social media trends, there are endless opportunities to be explored together.”
The visit featured the capabilities and research of the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity (CEHC); the Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC); the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (DEAS); the NYS Mesonet; and Innovate 518.
UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez, Provost Carol Kim and Vice President for Research and Economic Development Thenkurussi Kesavadas also joined in the discussions.
