“Measuring and Addressing Social Vulnerability to Climate Change” by Dr. Clark Gray

Abstract: The climate crisis has raised critical and unresolved questions about global exposure, vulnerability and adaptation to climate extremes, questions which population scientists are uniquely positioned to answer. The talk will cover recent and ongoing work using population-representative data from DHS, LSMS and the UNC Transfer Project to understand who is most vulnerable to climate extremes and whether anti-poverty programs can buffer against these effects. I will conclude by flagging a set of underused data sources and unresolved issues that are waiting to be addressed.
