The Graduate Certificate in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) offers students the opportunity to explore and deepen their understanding of the field of MCH as a specialty area within public health. MCH focuses on promoting the health and well-being of women, infants, children, adolescents, fathers, and families, with special concern for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations, including children with special health care needs.
This certificate program requires the completion of 12 graduate credits: one required MCH course (Hpm 530); one additional MCH course selected from a list of designated courses; and two additional MCH-related electives approved for the certificate. Reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of MCH practice, the four courses must encompass a minimum of two distinct disciplines, defined as two different schools, academic departments, or public health concentrations. The required core course provides students with a base of fundamental MCH knowledge and concepts, and flexibility in selecting additional courses allows students to tailor the program to their interests within the broad field of MCH.
