The MPH/MD dual degree program builds upon the existing relationship between the School of Public Health and Albany Medical College to prepare physicians who are aware and capable of addressing public health problems and public health professionals who are adept at clinical knowledge and practice. Physicians are enabled to be better practitioners and leaders in the fields of medicine and public health.
Students pursuing the dual MPH/MD degree will be able to complete the degree in five years. MPH coursework is completed beginning in the summer after the third year of medical school and during year 4. The following courses/internship are eligible for transfer credit or waived for medical students in lieu of medical school courses completed: 1) HPM 500; 2) BMS 505; 3) one concentration elective satisfied by completion of Bioethics; and 4) a six-credit internship which is satisfied by one of the medical school clerkships designed to reflect medical and public health principles.
To be considered for admission into the dual MPH/MD degree program, applicants must be admitted first to medical school. Subsequently, an application must be submitted to the State University of New York at Albany for admission consideration into the School of Public Health’s MPH degree program.

Students who have previously been convicted of a felony are advised that their prior criminal history may impede their ability to complete the requirements of certain academic programs and/or to meet licensure requirements for certain professions.
