Professional Interests
Emily's professional interests include romantic relationships, mindfulness- and acceptance-based approaches, eating disorders/intuitive eating and sizeism, LGBTQIA+ issues, anxiety disorders, self-image and self-esteem.
Approach to Therapy
Emily takes a collaborative approach to therapy that is based on each client’s unique values and the life they want for themselves. To her, any thought, feeling, or experience is only a problem if it interferes with one's ability to live the life they want and be the person they want to be. Emily's style of therapy is to help clients clarify what they want their lives to look like, and to learn different ways of relating to difficult thoughts and feelings so that they don’t get in the way as much anymore. Additionally, she uses systemic and intersectional lenses to make sense of each client’s concerns within their unique context in the world.
Approach to Wellness
As mentioned above, Emily believes that wellness is based on each individual’s goals and values. She believes that her job is not to tell an individual what to do or what to change, but rather to help them clarify what they want to change and help them get there.
