Distinguished International Scholarships & Fellowships

The Center for International Education and Global Strategy supports UAlbany undergraduate and graduate students in their application processes for distinguished scholarship and fellowship awards and grants.

Preparation well in advance of deadlines is important and our office can assist you in:

  • Identifying scholarships and fellowships that match your academic interests and career goals
  • Sharpening and focusing your application essays and other components
  • Creating a global perspective in areas of the world that you may not have considered

International scholarships and fellowships are highly competitive so the earlier you reach out, the more comprehensive the process will be.

Our office works with schools/colleges, departments and faculty here on campus in a positive and collaborative way to assist students in realizing their dreams. We hold workshops and information sessions, and conduct one-on-one advising.

To learn more about these opportunities, please contact Jacqueline Ledermann, Assistant Director of Global Academic Programs and Fulbright Program Advisor, at [email protected].

Note: UAlbany's Honors College is the contact for several other competitive scholarships and fellowships, including the Marshall, Mitchell and Rhodes Scholarships. Please visit Honors College's Nationally Competitive Scholarships webpage for information.

Rangel Scholarship

The Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Program offers a six-week summer program designed to provide undergraduate students with a deeper appreciation of current issues and trends in international affairs, a greater understanding of career opportunities in international affairs, and the enhanced knowledge and skills to pursue such careers.

The Summer Enrichment Program encourages the application of students from minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, women, and those with financial need in order to fulfill the Rangel Program mission of enhancing diversity in U.S. representation abroad. The Program is a U.S. Department of State program administered by Howard University.

The International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program takes place at Howard University in Washington, D.C. To enhance participants' academic preparation to work in international affairs, the Program provides two courses that focus on enhancing knowledge and skills related to U.S. foreign policy and economics, plus a writing seminar.

To give the scholars greater insight into the foreign policy making process and international affairs careers, the Rangel Program introduces them to a wide range of professionals from government and non-governmental organizations who work on global issues. It also arranges trips to various governmental and non-governmental institutions involved in international affairs and explores options for graduate study, fellowships, and internships.
