Research
My research focuses on the morphosyntactic changes in U.S. Spanish as well how language ideologies inform linguistic prejudices against Latine communities among other sociolinguistic issues. In particular, I examine the linguistic and affective consequences of language shift to English among Mexican-Americans in Austin, TX. In addition to providing quantitative evidence of language shift, I use my data to humanize the problem to examine how Latine Austinites have been personally affected, thereby centering those whose voices should be the main focus of language shift studies; such voices are conspicuously absent in previous work.
