Exploring Research at UAlbany
As one of the nation’s most diverse Research-1 institutions, UAlbany offers countless opportunities for undergraduates to engage in research, scholarship and creative activities.
Together, our nine schools and colleges form a distinctive public research university — driven by a passion for excellence and the desire to make a positive impact on our communities and the world. Learn more about ongoing initiatives on the Division for Research & Economic Development website.
Your major, minor or class year don’t limit your options. We encourage you to explore opportunities across schools, colleges, departments and disciplines!
School and college websites will help you identify active centers and institutes, while faculty directories will help you learn about individual faculty members’ research interests and labs.

The University at Albany Summer Research Program (UASRP) offers enriching and valuable research experiences to qualified, underrepresented undergraduate students.
UASRP participants work under the direction and guidance of faculty members and researchers during an intensive, eight-week, residential program during UAlbany’s Summer Sessions.
The RNA Institute offers competitive summer fellowships for undergraduate students interested in pursuing research with one of our Institute faculty through a bioinformatics training program, at the bench research or a combination of the two.
The RNA Institute trains undergraduate students each summer in scientific discovery in and around ribonucleic acid (RNA) science and RNA-based technologies.
The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program is supported by the National Science Foundation and aims to engage a diverse range of students, especially those underrepresented in STEM.
