UAlbany Pitches In

Last Saturday, more than 1,200 students, faculty and staff rolled up their sleeves for the BIG EVENT, a full day of service on campus and in the community.

On campus, volunteers reconditioned used children’s books for the RED Bookshelf, which is dedicated to getting books into the hands of children. There was an American Red Cross blood drive and Five Quad offered training in first aid and hands-only CPR. Volunteers created care bags for St. Peter’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. Others made dog beds, treats and toys for Companion Animal Placement Program, or bird treats for the Northeast Avian Society.

Off campus, there were six volunteer locations, including The Pine Hills Neighborhood Clean Up, the Vegetable Project, RADIX Ecological Sustainability Center, Habitat for Humanity Restore, the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York and Northern Rivers Family and Child Center.
