Campos, Benjamin Headed to NCAA Track and Field Nationals

ALBANY, N.Y. (June 4, 2024) — Graduate student Ludith Campus and first year student Amelia Benjamin will represent the University at Albany at this year's NCAA Women's Track and Field Nationals held at the University of Oregon.

Campos finished in eighth place at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships at the University of Kentucky, becoming the first female hammer thrower in school history to qualify for the national competition. She launched a throw of 205 feet, 6 inches to break her own school record in the event.

With the throw, Campus also became the national record holder for the Dominican Republic in the event.

Meanwhile, first year student Amelia Benjamin soared to a new freshman school record of five feet, 11 and one quarter inches in the high jump. She finished in 11th at the Preliminary Championships to become the first female high jumper in school history to advance to the national finals.

Junior Stephanie Green also took part in the preliminary championships, finishing in 30th place in the hammer throw with a toss of 184-04. Junior Leann Nicholas leapt 41 feet, six inches to finish in 24th place in the triple jump.

The national finals will held in Eugene, Oregon at the University of Oregon.

Campos will compete the women's hammer throw on Thursday, June 6, while Benjamin will compete in the women's high jump on Saturday, June 8.
