Celebrating Science with STEM and Nanotechnology Family Day
ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2024) — UAlbany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE) is welcoming students from throughout the Capital Region on Saturday, Feb. 10, to STEM and Nanotechnology Family Day, a place to learn about how nanotechnology is making a difference in our lives now and in the future.
Children will find out how working with atoms and molecules can make the extraordinary happen, from fun household experiments to running the world’s most innovative computers. Tours of ETEC’s environmental and sustainable engineering lab, activities at NY CREATES’ Albany NanoTech Complex, giveaways and activities most suited for children from world’s most innovative computers involving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). 2nd through 8th grades will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Registration for the event has already exceeded capacity.
“As we want to bring more individuals into the STEM workforce, it is important that we capture their attention while they are still young,” said CNSE Dean Michele J. Grimm. “Modern media highlights the exciting careers of doctors, lawyers, and athletes — but rarely are scientists and engineers featured. If we can excite a young person about science and engineering, hopefully we can maintain that excitement through high school and into college and a career.”
Check-in and activities take place in ETEC on the Harriman Campus.
Those participating in nano-related hands-on activities at the NY CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex will depart via bus from ETEC at 9 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m.
Partners attending the event include NY CREATES, AIM Photonics, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, Global Foundries, IBM and more. CEHC will also be on hand with giveaways and activities. This event is sponsored by CNSE, NY CREATES and the New York State Master Teacher Program.
