STEM NOW (Nourishing Opportunities for Women) was invited to speak at the Girls Inc! Eureka program at UAlbany on July 15, 2024.

UAlbany alumni Dr. Mónica Ventura, PhD '24, and Dr. Alexis Weber, PhD '24, delivered an interactive presentation titled "STEM Sisters: Inspiring the Next Generation of Female Scientists" and conducted activities for the girls focused on confidence, imposter syndrome, and affirmations.

"As a representative of WISH (Women in Science and Health), it’s very gratifying to see these young chemists carrying the mantle of WISH, and promoting science among schoolgirls," said Distinguished Professor Marlene Belfort, who is a WISH Co-founder. "Having these PhD students as role models and big sisters allows these young girls to dream of a future in STEM with confidence and promise."

Ventura and Weber both graduated from UAlbany in Spring 2024 with doctoral degrees in chemistry. Ventura was motivated to found STEM NOW after witnessing the underrepresentation of women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and the obstacles women encounter in these fields.

STEM NOW's mission is to facilitate a safe environment where people of all backgrounds and genders can work together to promote equality in STEM through professional development, networking and advocacy.
