Recreation & Wellness’ Personal Training Program uses a client-centered approach to create a safe, inclusive and comfortable environment.
All students, faculty, staff and affiliated employees may sign up for personal training sessions, which are available for a fee.
Note: Personal training sessions don’t require a membership. However, graduate students, faculty, staff and affiliated employees must have a membership to use the open gym times at The Well at Colonial. Undergraduate students have full access to The Well.
Our personal trainers learn about their clients’ goals, create training programs that progress clients when they’re ready, provide motivation and support, and empower clients to form lifelong healthy habits.
All personal training sessions are taught by Recreation & Wellness student personal trainers in the Functional Fitness Studio at The Well at Colonial.
The studio is equipped with squat racks, lifting platforms, bench press stations, kettlebells, functional sandbags, a tire flip station and a state-of-the-art Echelon Fitness Mirror.
Two types of personal training sessions are available:
Each hour-long session includes a warm-up, a personalized workout program, a cool-down and a conversation on how the session went.
Additionally, all clients gain access to Recreation & Wellness' online personal training platform while they are actively participating in the personal training program.
The platform allows clients to communicate with their personal trainer daily, review previous lifting results, watch video demonstrations of most exercises and access any future written workouts.
New clients are required to purchase the starter package before they can purchase additional sessions. The starter package includes one assessment/intake appointment and the first personal training session.
If a client previously worked with a Recreation & Wellness personal trainer but has been physically inactive for over three months, a starter package is encouraged but not mandated.

Lateness Policy: Personal trainers will wait up to 15 minutes for their clients. After that time, they will decide if they will work with the client for the rest of the session. If a client is late, they understand that the session will end exactly one hour from the original start time. No extra time will be granted.
No-show Policy: If a client does not show up for a session (“no-show”), there is no refund.
Cancellation Policy: If a client needs or wants to cancel a session, it is their responsibility to contact their personal trainer. Please provide as much notice as possible when canceling. Canceling less than one hour before the session start time may result in losing that session with no refund.
Refund Policy: Refunds will only be considered when there is an emergency, and they will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
