Larsen Lab October 16 Virtual Walk for Sjörgren's Foundation

Larsen Lab Virtual Walk for Sjörgren's Foundation

On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, more than twenty participants from the Larsen lab and other members of UAlbany’s Department of Biological Sciences took part in a virtual walk in support of the Sjögren’s Foundation, raising over $500 for this important cause.  This is the third year that the Larsen Lab and members of UAlbany have participated in supporting the Sjögren’s Foundation Virtual Walk Event.

Sjögren’s disease is an autoimmune condition that affects the lachrymal and salivary glands, resulting in dry eyes and dry mouth. It ranks as one of the most common autoimmune diseases in the United States, following lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis. Despite its prevalence, Sjögren’s disease can be challenging to diagnose due to its wide range of symptoms, many of which overlap with other conditions. Currently, there is no approved cure or treatment, although the symptoms can be managed individually.

The funds raised from this and future events will greatly support Sjögren’s research and education efforts, as it is the second most common autoimmune disorder. To learn more about Sjögren’s disease, please visit https://sjogrens.org/.
