Chen Qiulin: Recent Work

November 2, 2007 - January 6, 2008

My work is about the present. Time is treated almost as an abstraction in which there are few predetermined boundaries. Because the work in this exhibition relates to the specific historical moment of the Three Gorges Project, the reference to time seems to assume a tangible form. But in fact, the work belongs more to the world of my daydreams. Dreams are boundless; their vagueness echoes my feelings toward the momentous changes happening in urban China.  As to the past – 20 years or 2,000 years – in my mind, it could be an even more distant past.  I don’t know.  In the end I am just one person with a particular method of recording what I perceive.
