Race and Ethnicity, Environment, Social Movements, Qualitative Methods, Global/Transnational  Situated at the intersections of environmental sociology, social movements and critical race and ethnic studies, Dr. Shaw’s research and teaching take a multi-disciplinary approach to explore how different communities make meaning out of social crisis. Her current projects focus on community and activist responses to disasters in the US and Asia.
