ALBANY, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2024) — The University at Albany has been selected as one of the 2025 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs. The annual recognition — awarded by ACPA - College Student Educators International and Diverse: Issues in Higher Education — celebrates student affairs workplaces that are vibrant, diverse, supportive and committed to staff work-life balance, professional development and inclusive excellence.
“We are honored to be recognized as one of the Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs,” said Michael Christakis, vice president for student affairs and enrollment. "This achievement reflects our commitment to creating an environment where our team feels valued, supported and inspired to make a difference in the lives of our students. At UAlbany, we prioritize equity, collaboration and professional growth, and this recognition affirms the impact of our collective efforts. We remain dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive workplace where every member of our community can thrive."
UAlbany was selected for the honor following an assessment of the institution’s focus on workplace diversity, staffing practices and work environment. The University rose to the top in categories such as family friendliness, salary and benefits, and professional development opportunities.
UAlbany’s Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment supports annual initiatives that enhance the work of its team, such as: the supervision of divisional councils and committees; recognizing team members through both an annual awards program and departmental recognition; supporting professional development opportunities with programs that promote learning and connections; and encouraging engagement in local, regional and national professional associations.
In addition, the University’s Well-being Collective — established in 2021 and comprised of more than 50 faculty, staff and students — continues to support the health of the campus community, creating an environment where employees can succeed and furthers the institution’s role as a Health Promoting University.
The Most Promising Places to Work highlights qualities such as demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, encouraging work across silos and fostering a sense of belonging.
The recognition informs higher education leaders about the practices and achievements of fellow institutions that can be used to support their own student affairs departments, while also serving as a useful tool for employers, career services staff and jobseekers across the country.
UAlbany will attend a reception celebrating those who received the honor on Feb. 17 at the ACPA25 Convention in Long Beach, California. The University will be also highlighted in a future edition of Diverse in recognition of their selection and achievement.
