Writing and Critical Inquiry Program (WCI) Director Dr. Stephanie Hassan Richardson passed away on October 28, 2024.
Dr. Hassan Richardson was a proud alum of University at Albany, earning a PhD in English with a concentration in rhetoric and composition.
As WCI Director, Dr. Hassan Richardson implemented strategies for cultivating inclusive pedagogical and programmatic outcomes, while continuing the program’s legacy of investing in student success.
Dr. Hassan Richardson felt most invested in scholarship surrounding pedagogical approaches to diversity, equity and inclusion. advocating for pedagogies of cultural inclusion to validate students’ sense of self, increase student engagement and empower individuals to develop a greater sense of voice.
Dr. Hassan Richardson was a native of Buffalo, New York; mother to her incredible son Hershel (Tre); and sister to Natalie, Dayatra, Tiffany, Melanie, Jeenah and Khadijah.
A leader, colleague, friend and inspiration to all who had the good fortune to know her, we will deeply miss Dr. Hassan Richardson’s combination of strength and compassion as we cherish her memory and carry forward her vision.
