If you’d like to expand your knowledge of curriculum and instruction without having to complete a dissertation, the Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) may be a good choice for you.

The program includes 60 credits of graduate courses and provides opportunities for you to network and develop your professional reputation by participating in faculty research projects and attending research seminars.

Specializations include: learning, teaching, and teacher education; learning sciences and technology; language and technology; literacy, language, and culture; science and mathematics education; TESOL and second language acquisition; and society, equity, and social studies.

Learning, Teaching, and Teacher Education

Study methods of teaching across disciplines and differences that value student and teacher voices as important sources of knowledge and understanding.

Learning Sciences and Technology

Conduct cross-disciplinary research that investigates new learning processes, models, programs, and systems enabled by innovative designs of technology.

Language and Technology

Examine the ways language is used within and around educational technologies, and how discourse shapes instructional environments, learning processes, and outcomes.

Literacy, Language, and Culture

Research correlations between literacy, language, and culture in language learning and the role of cultural and linguistic practices in school-based and out-of-school learning.

Science and Mathematics Education

Focus on topics related to teaching K-12 and post-secondary science and mathematics, such as mathematical play, gaming and modeling, and computing education.

Two of the three required letters of recommendation must be academic. Please check with the department to see if applications are being accepted after the published deadline date. Applications for all three semesters will be reviewed two weeks following deadline (excluding holidays and vacation weeks) with the latest notification two weeks following review.
