Earn NYS Professional Teacher Certification

The MS in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology at UAlbany is considered a related program of study to fulfill the MS requirement for Professional certification requirement in New York (as of 7/26/2024). Graduates apply for the professional certificate through the NYSED transcript review process.


Become a Trainer

Pursue a career training adult learners. In these positions, you apply principles of curriculum development, instructional design, and instructional technology in corporate training departments, and other education settings.

You can earn your master’s degree part-time or full-time through online courses and/or campus-based evening and summer classes that work with your schedule.

In this designated OpenSUNY+ program, you also have access to comprehensive support services including a 24/7 help desk, online tutoring, and personal advising.

There is no departmental assistantship consideration for this program.

Required Application Materials:

  • Transcripts from all schools attended
  • Applicants need a 3.0 GPA to be eligible
  • Three letters of recommendation (At least one letter should be from a past professor, or someone who has worked with you in an academic setting and can evaluate your academic capability. The other two can come from individuals who have observed you in a professional context.  All the recommendations should come from people who would be able to evaluate your capability for academic success; who can evaluate your substantial work in education or your current field; who supervise your work in current employment and can speak to your capacity for collaborating, managing multiple projects simultaneously, as well as working independently; or who have observed your effectiveness in a professional or human-service context.  At least two letters of recommendation should provide evidence that you can succeed in graduate education.)
  • Statement of Goals. Guiding questions for Statement of Goals.

Special Notes

Completed applications that meet all admission criteria are typically reviewed within two weeks of receipt.

Please note that as of Spring 2017 admission and forward this program will require an overall TOEFL score of 85 or better, with no section below 20 for all International applicants who originate from non-English speaking countries. Applicants who have taken IELTS in lieu of TOEFL will need a minimum overall score of 6.5 with no section below 6.5 except for writing which cannot be below 5.5.
