Dr. James Randal Moulic joined the University at Albany as the Associate Dean for Applied Learning and Cooperative Education and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2016. He has also served as Acting Chair in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (2016-17) and the Department of Computer Science (2017-18) until permanent chairs were hired.
Dr. Moulic comes to us from his previous position at the University of Alaska-Anchorage. During his 39-year career prior to joining academia, Dr. Moulic led IBM’s worldwide research activities on wireless, mobile systems and cloud-based services. He helped develop numerous supercomputers, including Los Alamos National Lab’s Roadrunner, the world’s first petaflop. Dr. Moulic also led the Deep Blue computer chess project, initiating the first exhibition match events with World Champions Gary Kasparov and Anotoly Karpov. Professor Moulic is an IEEE Life Fellow and an ABET PEV.

His research interests include digital electronics, computer architecture, very large scale integrated systems, and parallel programming.
