Dear Colleagues:
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jeanette Altarriba, Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education, has agreed to serve as Interim Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) beginning January 1, 2019.
Dr. Altarriba, who has been with the University at Albany for more than 25 years, is very familiar with the CAS Dean’s office, having served as the CAS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 2003 to 2007. In addition to her service for the past six years as Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education, her extensive administrative leadership experience includes chairing both the Department of Communication and the Department of Psychology.
Dr. Altarriba has served on multiple committees and task forces at every level of the University. Most recently, her roles as co-chair of the Middle States Self-Study Steering Committee and member of our Strategic Plan Committee have resulted in significant institutional contributions. Further, her deep commitment to UAlbany is exemplified by her designation as a Collins Fellow and as a recipient of the President’s Award for Excellence in Academic Service.
Despite her substantial administrative engagement, Dr. Altarriba has maintained an active portfolio of research, and she continues to train and mentor doctoral students in the Department of Psychology. Given her high level of academic and administrative experience, we consider her superbly qualified to take on the role of Interim Dean of CAS.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Altarriba on this appointment.
Sincerely,
Havidán Rodríguez
