About
I investigate how economic, environmental, household, and family contexts shape past and present populations. My ongoing research in North Orkney, Scotland, focuses on historical variation in household and family patterns and its implications for population and economic change. Another project in Orkney examines fertility and mortality responses to grain price fluctuations in the nineteenth century. My other research interests include demographic responses to climate variation, intergenerational transmission of fertility, and the effects of household composition on fertility, mortality, and migration.
