2019 Chancellor Winner: Langie Cadesca

Langie Cadesca of Brooklyn says her love for public service and public office grew at UAlbany. It shows.

Cadesca is the president of the Student Association, president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council and president of the Epsilon Nu Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

A Criminal Justice major and Africana Studies minor, Cadesca also volunteers at several organizations, including Habitat for Humanity, the Capital City Rescue Mission and the Interfaith Partnership.

She was a resident advisor and was involved in the Elect Her program, and has served on the University Auxiliary Services Board, as a student assistant at the Center for Leadership and Service, and as a student representative on the Strategic Planning Implementation Board. An EOP student and a first-generation college student, Cadesca is dedicated to giving back to her community.

“I learned valuable communication, delegation and prioritization skills through my involvement,” she said. “Most of all, it is important for me to share these lessons and achievements with young people that look like me. Seeing the barriers put in front of me, it's so important to mentor young men and women.”

After graduation in May, Cadesca plans to work in criminal justice in the nonprofit sector and eventually continue her education in law school.
