Rakhee Balaram is Associate Professor of Global Art and Art History at University at Albany, State University of New York, where she specializes in modern and contemporary art. Her book Counterpractice: Psychoanalysis, Politics and the Art of ‘French Feminism’, or an alternative history of art in France after May ’68 (Manchester University Press) will be out in 2022. She is also co-editor of a comprehensive survey of modern and contemporary Indian art, 20th-Century Indian Art (Thames & Hudson, 2022). She is currently interested in issues of global art history, theory and art criticism and the philosophies of digital media, technology and machine learning. Her research has been supported by the Art Histories Fellowship in Berlin, Germany, the ICI Berlin Institute of Cultural Inquiry, the Tata SPEAR grant at JNU in New Delhi, among others. Balaram holds double doctorates in French Literature from Cambridge University and the History of Art from The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London.
