What do I need to know about summer aid?
Degree-seeking undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to apply for summer aid.
Summer financial aid can be used to pay for tuition and living expenses only during the weeks you are enrolled in classes. Summer payment plans are available.
Students enrolled in Summer Sessions can apply for on-campus summer housing.
Summer Pell Grants
At UAlbany, the summer term starts the academic year. Using aid in the summer may reduce your eligibility for Pell Grants in the fall and spring semesters.
Undergraduate students who are eligible for less than half-time Pell must be registered for at least one degree-applicable credit to qualify for a summer Pell Grant.
TAP Eligibility
At UAlbany, the summer term starts the academic year. Using aid in the summer may reduce your eligibility for TAP payments in the fall and spring semesters.
Federal Loan Disbursement
You must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify for federal loan disbursements. Loan disbursement dates are also determined by enrollment.
Half-time is six degree-applicable credits for undergraduate students and 4.5 degree-applicable credits for graduate students.
Borrowing federal loans in the summer will reduce your loan eligibility for the fall and spring semesters.
Excelsior Scholarship Credit Requirements
Excelsior Scholarship recipients must earn at least 30 degree-applicable credits per academic year.
Students who did not earn at least 30 degree-applicable credits in the previous fall, winter and spring terms may use summer term classes to meet the requirement.
Excelsior Scholarship payments are not available for the summer term.
How do I apply for summer aid?
To qualify for summer aid, you must:
- Register for summer classes. Visit the Summer Sessions website for registration instructions.
- Complete the FAFSA.
- Complete Important Notices on MyUAlbany.
- Fulfill all academic requirements for receiving aid.
- Submit the 2024 Summer Aid Application, which will be available from May 13, 2024, to August 4, 2024.
Due to FAFSA processing issues impacting students and schools nationwide, summer award processing is tentatively scheduled to begin in early June. Students will receive their summer financial aid award notice via email, beginning in early June. Be sure to monitor your UAlbany email inbox.
