Virtual Conversations to Understand and Eliminate Minority Health Disparities
ALBANY, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2020) – The UAlbany team studying how communities of color are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 is partnering with the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) to present a virtual series designed to facilitate conversations in understanding and eliminating minority health disparities.
Turning the Tide: Understanding and Eliminating Minority Health Disparities is a free, monthly webinar series bringing together experts from UAlbany, HANYS and other project and community partners. Each webinar features a panel of experts and an open Q&A session.
Topics covered in the series, which runs through July, include vaccine hesitancy, public health messaging, risk perception, the role of community health workers and how to serve culturally and linguistically diverse patients.
The first event, on Jan. 13, focused on quantifying the extent of minority health disparities experienced with COVID-19 and featured a panel discussion including UAlbany President Havidán Rodríguez and School of Public Health Dean David Holtgrave, as well as Bea Grause (president, HANYS), Courtney Burke (chief operating and innovation officer, HANYS) and Debbie Salas-Lopez (senior vice president, Northwell Health).
