Joelle Mann

Joelle Mann is director of teacher preparation in the School of Education at the University at Albany. Prior to this role, she served as assistant director of field education, partnering with local schools to place preservice teachers in their field sites. After receiving her PhD in English from Stony Brook University—with specialties in cultural studies and media/writing studies—Joelle has taught courses on rhetorical theory, civic education, technical writing, digital writing, and contemporary literature and literacies. Joelle entered higher education after a career in secondary education. She has over twenty years of experience in secondary and postsecondary institutions, and she also has held positions as a 7-12 English teacher and Literacy Specialist. Joelle’s current research engages the ways in which digital forms affect our sociopolitical modes of participation and pedagogy, and her monograph, Mixed Media in Contemporary American Literature: Voices Gone Viral, was published by Routledge. Joelle is on the executive board of the SUNY Council on Writing and has also published articles on feminist pedagogy, composition, and literature. In her free time, Joelle is an avid runner, gardener, hiker, and reader.
