Transfer Student Programs
As a transfer student, you can select a program to help guide you towards your academic goals and make connections among the campus community.
While these are not mandatory for transfer students, those who participate in at least one transfer program are more likely to have a higher GPA and be more engaged than students who are not in any kind of support program on campus.
Please consider selecting a program, to set yourself up for success during your first year.
You can select one of these...
A year-long, enriched academic experience open to incoming transfer students each Fall Semester
Why join a transfer community?
- Be a part of a small class/community with other incoming transfer students
- Meet key people and discover important resources on campus
- Connect to an upper class student who is assigned to your community to help you integrate
- Engage in professional development and social events catered to your interests
- Living on campus is optional; transfer communities are open to commuter students and transfer students who choose to live anywhere on campus
What types of transfer communities are available?

The zero-credit half-semester engagement course is designed to help you engage with faculty and staff, campus resources and support offices, opportunities to apply what you are learning and new ways to think about your field of study. This course is intended to be a discussion based course and will not have any outside of class homework.
UUNI 99 Registration
Incoming transfer students are able to register for the UUNI 99 course once they meet with their advisor and have access to registration. Please let your advisor know if you are interested in this course.
Our transfer clubs provide ways for you to get involved and stay engaged throughout your entire time at UAlbany.
The Non-Traditional Student Club is for students who identify as non-traditional. These students are typically 24 years of age or older and may be balancing outside obligations in addition to school (work, families, etc.).
The Driving Force is for any commuter student who wants to be involved on campus and make UAlbany more commuter friendly.
Please check MyInvolvement for upcoming transfer student events. Also, make a habit of checking your UAlbany email. That is the number one-way UAlbany faculty, staff and students will communicate with you.
Transfer Transition Leaders (TTL) often hold meet-ups before larger campus events to help make attending a little bit easier.
TTLs are students who want to help you adjust to life at UAlbany. They plan and implement programs for all incoming transfer students throughout the semester.
What is a Transfer Transition Leader?
TTLs are students that focus on making your life a little bit easier. Every leader has chosen this role to try and make your transfer experience as smooth and straightforward as possible. We come from different backgrounds and prior institutions and represent a mix of majors across campus.
We’re here to answer any questions you might have. We love our campus and love to talk about. We can help you find a specific office, help you find a club to join, or share tips to help make this process smoother for you.
Tau Sigma is the national honor society specifically for transfer students. This is a great leadership opportunity and academic goal to help transition into your first semester at UAlbany.
UAlbany was approved to open a chapter of Tau Sigma National Honors Society in the Fall of 2007 and the first induction took place in March 2008. Since then, the community has grown to include over 1000 members in our UAlbany chapter and over 200,000 nation-wide. Learn more about Tau Sigma National Honor Society.
How to Apply
To be eligible for Tau Sigma membership, transfer students must take at least 12 credits at UAlbany and earn a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Eligible students will be contacted at the end of the semester and invited to join the organization.
Questions?
We are excited you are interested in joining our campus and becoming part of our community! Please review the email you received from undergraduate admissions, which provides information on how to setup your UAlbany Applicant Status Page. This page allows you to monitor your application status and includes the application status checklists as well as other notifications. All items must be completed before an admissions decision can be made.
If you have not yet activated your account or forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Your Password" link to reset. Please contact Undergraduate Admissions ([email protected]) if you need additional assistance.
Congratulations on your acceptance! Once accepted, your UAlbany Applicant Status Page will provide information on next steps. You may be asked to submit an admissions deposit or to complete an ‘Admit Reply Form’. Completing this step signifies you plan to enroll in the upcoming semester and must be completed prior to orientation, advisement, and registration.
The University at Albany requires you to meet with your academic advisor and obtain your Advisor Verification Number (AVN) each semester before you register for courses. Incoming transfer students can anticipate outreach from their advisor beginning in early May and continuing throughout summer. We know registration is stressful and students often have multiple other obligations, which is why we reserve/save seats for our incoming students!
Note: you must complete all admissions related tasks (accepted and deposited/admit reply form) and submit vaccination records (MMR is vax required) to be eligible to register.
All students are assigned a dedicated advisor who supports their success from orientation through graduation. Advisors can help you achieve your educational goals, improve your academic performance and connect you to resources and opportunities at UAlbany. Advisors can be a faculty member within your major, professional advisors who are content area experts or professional university advisors who support students who have earned less than 24 credits or who are still completing major specific admission requirements. Please visit the Academic Support Center website for more information.
Your Advisor Verification Number (AVN) is a unique number assigned to you each semester that is required to schedule courses for an upcoming semester. As suggested, this number is given to you after you've met with your assigned advisor and have received advisement for the upcoming semester. Advisors are an essential aspect to your UAlbany journey and provide their advises with a lot of important information.
Degree Audits are a live document and often change/update a few times before they are finalized. You will connect with your academic advisor as part of the onboarding process, who will review your transfer credit and how it is being applied on your degree audit. Your advisor may submit major related exceptions or advise you on how to submit non-major related requests. Please be sure to process a new degree audit each time you review it and keep a list of discrepancies/questions you would like to discuss with your advisor.
