This microcredential is best suited for international education professionals, leaders and future leaders who need tools and strategies to take their institution to a higher level of international engagement.
The power and impact of international education on students is recognized as a benefit in an era of rapid globalization, yet it is also constrained by internal barriers and external challenges of international travel. Through specific exercises, readings and projects in this rigorous module, you will develop both professional skills and valuable deliverables to implement changes to international education operations in your organization.
Virtually, participants will be grouped by interest and institution type to assess current institutional status and devise 1-3-year (re)positioning plans to strengthen the international office and its overall contribution to campus-wide internationalization.
- Session 1: Use SWOT analysis to explore key elements of curricular internationalization.
- Session 2: Use reverse engineering to re-envision institutional offerings, redefine the international office and its campus position to start drafting the re-positioning plan.
- Session 3: Investigate financial challenges and produce arguments for funding international office initiatives with options such as traditional and non-traditional student financial aid, brainstorming new revenue streams, building campus allies and reframing budgets in an investment framework to reduce program fees and attract new funding.
- Session 4: Identify operational and management strategies to take advantage of student strengths, both international and domestic, as well as staff training and mentoring.
- Session 5: Present final (re)positioning plans and collectively critique. Your (re)positioning plan will be evaluated by the instructor for the purpose of awarding the digital badge.
