Susan G. Cumings joined the Writing and Critical Inquiry Program in 2013, before which she was Associate Professor of English and Women’s Studies at Georgia College & State University.
Her areas of research include dis/ability theory, visual aesthetics and media; representations of the hybrid body in transgender autobiographies; race, gender, and environmental justice; Canadian literature; and creative non-fiction as a medium for critical theory and discursive activism.
Her recent publications include chapters in Rethinking Women’s and Gender Studies Vol. II (Routledge), Emerging Aesthetic Imaginaries (Rowman & Littlefield), and The Image of Disability: Essays on Media Representations (McFarland). She is also a featured speaker in the prizewinning documentary CRUTCH (streaming on Discovery+) about disabled dancer, activist and performance artist Bill Shannon.
