About

Haesol Bae is an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice. She joined the University at Albany faculty in 2023.  

Her research brings together problem-based learning, artificial intelligence (AI) and teacher education in STEM education.

Dr. Bae focuses on how students learn by engaging in solving complex problems and how technology can support this learning process. Specifically, Dr. Bae is interested in how teachers can play a central role in supporting students while utilizing emerging educational technology, such as games and AI.  

Currently, she is involved in two projects:

  • Designing and developing a cognitive orchestration assistant for collaborative problem-solving in a narrative-centered, game-based learning environment 
  • Collaborating with K-12 teachers to co-design an AI curriculum for rural middle schoolers to support locally relevant practices, with a focus on how AI impacts students' lives and the ethical considerations surrounding AI
