University at Albany President Havidán Rodríguez issued the following statement today following Gov. Hochul’s announcement of New York's landmark $1 billion investment in public-private semiconductor research at Albany NanoTech:

“New York State’s $1 billion investment in Albany NanoTech’s expansion shows our leaders are serious about ensuring the United States builds and maintains a critical technological edge in the global semiconductor industry.

The growth and success of Albany NanoTech over the last two decades is a testament to New York’s forward thinking, its ability to cultivate robust industry partnerships such as those celebrated today, and the importance of strong academic partners to these research collaborations. Congratulations to Gov. Hochul, Sens. Schumer and Gillibrand, NY CREATES President Dave Anderson and to everyone who worked to make this landmark investment possible.

As the nation’s first college dedicated to nanoscience and semiconductors, the University at Albany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering stands ready to work with our long-standing partners at NY CREATES, in industry, and other academic institutions to build on this strong record of success and make New York the undisputed leader in next-generation chip design and development.”
