Lecture Topic: Improving the Use of Research Evidence in Policy and Practice
Advocates for evidence-based policy often assume that if only the research were of higher quality, and more timely, relevant, and accessible, policy makers would naturally gravitate to the research findings and bring them into their decision process.
Research supported by the William T. Grant Foundation indicates that the bridge between research and policy is more fragile than that. What does the research show about how to improve the use of research evidence? Can we point to specific, tested strategies to enhance evidence use? And how can universities support research that is used in policy and
practice?
