Nora Lum (aka Awkwafina) Receives Honorary Doctorate

WGSS Core, Joint, and Affiliated Faculty Members Join Awkwafina at Commencement

On May 11, 2024, during the Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, Nora Lum ('11 BA, Women's Studies and Journalism) received an honorary doctorate degree from the University at Albany.

Among other accomplishments, Nora Lum (or Awkwafina, as she is known professionally) was the first Asian-American to win a Golden Globe Best Actress award. WGSS faculty were delighted to join the ceremony and celebrate with Awkwafina!
