Statement on the Passage of the Albany NanoTech Ground Lease Legislation

"Since it was founded two decades ago, the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany has been integral to Albany NanoTech’s success. As we begin to see unprecedented federal investments in the domestic semiconductor industry through the CHIPS & Science Act, UAlbany is proud to partner with NY CREATES to ensure the continued growth of this unparalleled national asset.

This legislation will give NY CREATES the certainty it needs to market Albany NanoTech and the Capital Region as the premier location for semiconductor R&D and a natural choice to host the National Semiconductor Technology Center. In turn, CNSE students will continue to have unrivaled applied learning opportunities with industry leaders as newer, more efficient chips become essential for artificial intelligence and other applications central to our national security and economic competitiveness.

I am grateful to Sen. Neil Breslin, Assemblymember Pat Fahy and Assemblymember John McDonald for their committed advocacy for this critical legislation, the benefits of which will reach far beyond the Capital Region."
