About

I got my undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from UAlbany, and now I am excited to be pursuing my doctorate here as well! Before coming to the Berglund lab, I worked in a couple of labs studying Lyme disease. This fed my deep interest in how the human immune system responds to real or perceived threats to health. My current research focuses on the role of the immune system in myotonic dystrophy. While the cause of the disease is genetic, and many aspects of its pathology are related to RNA processing, there is a robust immune response in some tissues that is not well understood. I would like to discover more about the cause of this response, how it contributes to disease symptoms, and whether it can be ameliorated through treatment.
As a native of the Albany area, I am also a resource for local fun and adventure. I enjoy creating mosaics, hot air ballooning, and all activities involving woods, mountains, and lakes.
