Dear Colleagues:
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the search for the University’s next Vice President for Research and Economic Development.
Following extensive consideration of the four finalists who visited campus in July, which included feedback from the campus community, conversations with the candidates, discussions with the search firm Russell Reynolds Associates, and consultation with the search committee co-chairs, we extended an offer to one of the finalists. In addition to receiving broad campus support, this individual possessed a strong understanding of the transformational changes needed to expand UAlbany’s research enterprise.
Unfortunately, despite our very best efforts, the finalist was not able to accept our offer for personal reasons beyond our control. The remaining three finalists in this round are no longer under consideration due to a variety of circumstances.
At this time, I have asked the search committee to proceed with its work, and I remain confident that the University will recruit a national leader who will advance UAlbany’s research productivity, quality, and reputation as an R1 institution. As we have said throughout this process, we must move expeditiously while upholding our goal to identify the best individual to lead this critical enterprise.
We have an outstanding search committee that continues to do excellent work, and they are strongly committed to the success of this endeavor. We sincerely appreciate their time, effort, and active engagement in this process.
As we move forward, we will continue to keep the University community informed and we will certainly seek your ongoing participation.
Sincerely,
Havidán Rodríguez
President
