Transfer Student Programs
As a new transfer student, you are invited to join out transfer community!
While not mandatory for transfer students, those who participate are more likely to have a higher GPA and be more engaged than students who are not in any kind of support program on campus.
The transfer community is designed to help guide you towards your academic goals and make connections among the campus community.
The World of Transfer Engagement
A semester-long, enriched academic experience open to incoming transfer students each semester, who have an interest in getting involved and making friends their first semester.
Participate in a one-credit seminar and attend a variety of events with your community, engage in fun activities, and get exposed to campus resources that will help you make your first year at UAlbany a successful one.
Faculty Mentor: Sabrina Eames
Fall 2025 Course: UNI 350 (1 credit)
Why join the transfer community?
- Be a part of a small class/community with other incoming transfer students
- Meet key people and discover important resources on campus
- Connect to an upper-class student who is assigned to your community to help you integrate
- Engage in professional development and social events catered to your interests
- Living on campus is optional; transfer communities are open to commuter students and transfer students who choose to live anywhere on campus
How to Apply to a Transfer Community
The application for transfer communities is available when you apply for a Connection Day on your portal beginning on April 2, 2024. Once you're here...
Please check MyInvolvement for upcoming transfer student events. Also, make a habit of checking your UAlbany email. That is the number one-way UAlbany faculty, staff and students will communicate with you.
Tau Sigma is the national honor society specifically for transfer students. This is a great leadership opportunity and academic goal to help transition into your first semester at UAlbany.
UAlbany was approved to open a chapter of Tau Sigma National Honors Society in the Fall of 2007 and the first induction took place in March 2008. Since then, the community has grown to include over 1000 members in our UAlbany chapter and over 200,000 nation-wide. Learn more about Tau Sigma National Honor Society.
How to Apply to Tau Sigma
To be eligible for Tau Sigma membership, transfer students must take at least 12 credits at UAlbany and earn a 3.5 GPA or higher.
Eligible students will be contacted at the end of the semester and invited to join the organization.

We are excited you are interested in joining our campus and becoming part of our community! Please review the email you received from undergraduate admissions, which provides information on how to setup your UAlbany Applicant Status Page. This page allows you to monitor your application status and includes the application status checklists as well as other notifications. All items must be completed before an admissions decision can be made.
If you have not yet activated your account or forgotten your password, use the "Forgot Your Password" link to reset. Please contact Undergraduate Admissions (ugadmissions@albany.edu) if you need additional assistance.
Congratulations on your acceptance! Once accepted, your UAlbany Applicant Status Page will provide information on next steps. You may be asked to submit an admissions deposit or to complete an ‘Admit Reply Form’. Completing this step signifies you plan to enroll in the upcoming semester and must be completed prior to orientation, advisement, and registration.
The University at Albany requires you to meet with your academic advisor and obtain your Advisor Verification Number (AVN) each semester before you register for courses. Incoming transfer students can anticipate outreach from their advisor beginning in early May and continuing throughout summer. We know registration is stressful and students often have multiple other obligations, which is why we reserve/save seats for our incoming students!
Note: you must complete all admissions related tasks (accepted and deposited/admit reply form) and submit vaccination records (MMR is vax required) to be eligible to register.
All students are assigned a dedicated advisor who supports their success from orientation through graduation. Advisors can help you achieve your educational goals, improve your academic performance and connect you to resources and opportunities at UAlbany. Advisors can be a faculty member within your major, professional advisors who are content area experts or professional university advisors who support students who have earned less than 24 credits or who are still completing major specific admission requirements. Please visit the Academic Support Center website for more information.
Your Advisor Verification Number (AVN) is a unique number assigned to you each semester that is required to schedule courses for an upcoming semester. As suggested, this number is given to you after you've met with your assigned advisor and have received advisement for the upcoming semester. Advisors are an essential aspect to your UAlbany journey and provide their advises with a lot of important information.
Degree Audits are a live document and often change/update a few times before they are finalized. You will connect with your academic advisor as part of the onboarding process, who will review your transfer credit and how it is being applied on your degree audit. Your advisor may submit major related exceptions or advise you on how to submit non-major related requests. Please be sure to process a new degree audit each time you review it and keep a list of discrepancies/questions you would like to discuss with your advisor.
