The Elder Scrolls
Looking for a game series where you can just do whatever you want? Well you're in luck! The Elder Scrolls games are some of the best games to get side-tracked in. There are so many side quests that aside from character creation and the in-game tutorial you can basically choose your own path. Sometimes when I play I wait to do the main quest after I've done days worth of side quests. You don't need to finish a quest after you start it either! If a more appealing plot comes along then simply start doing that instead. You can customize your characters to your hearts extent when you start the game as well. Best part is you don't necessarily have to choose a class. You can add your starting points to certain skills but it is so easy to level up any skill on your own during gameplay. Say you want to get better at picking locks, you just pick a lot of locks. These games are made for anyone and everyone and the most recent game, Skyrim, is out on all current consoles.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda games are some of the most widely known games but Breath of the Wild is unlike any of the other Zelda games. Unlike other Zelda games you don't need to progress in any specific order. After you are done with the tutorial you could go straight over to fight Ganon...You probably wouldn't win though. The game gets easier as you find better weapons and recover more spirit orbs by completing shrines. You also get the fast-travel mechanic MUCH sooner than any other Zelda game that has fast travel. Not to mention this game is visually breath-taking. Your weapons break in this game as well which adds a new challenge to the game. There are also machines called "Divine Beasts". When you defeat a Divine Beast you get abilities that make the game easier and get you closer to the goal of finally giving Ganon the smack-down he deserves. This game can only be found on the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Maybe you're looking for more of a strategy based RPG, if so then Fire Emblem: Three Houses is the game you want. Towards the beginning of the game you have to make a choice of which of the three school houses you want to be in. This choice will affect the rest of your game and give a different story than if you chose one of the other houses. That means you can play the game 3 separate times and get 3 different stories/viewpoints. I am only in my 2nd runthrough of the game but I can't wait to experience all 3 houses. You can also choose to add an option where if your party members die in combat they will be gone for the rest of the game! This is my favorite way to play because it makes the game more challenging. This game is one of the best strategy rpg's I've ever played and I would highly recommend playing it! This game is only available on Nintendo Switch.
