About

Dr. Miller’s research interrogates the meaning and utility of the bio-psycho-social-spiritual realities of Black sexual minorities as they manage HIV disease. His interdisciplinary work illuminates the intersectionality of Black sexual minorities as they realize and make use of their strengths in the service of their desired outcomes. His program of research highlights the intersection of spirituality and social work.

Dr. Miller teaches generalist social work practice courses (Micro 1 and 2), Cultural Diversity in Social Work, Spirituality and Social Work; Integrative Body Mind Spirit and Social Work as well as the African Policy and Social Work in the MSW program.

His additional duties include serving as the Director of “The US-Africa Partnership to Build Stronger Communities.” As such, he extends the Africa Policy course to conduct an Africa study tour. This annual educational and socio-political-historical cultural travel opportunity to various regions in Sub-Saharan and eastern Africa examines and interrogates the policies undergirding the provision of social work services in the areas of child welfare, gender rights and HIV disease.

His work also includes consultancies with state and federal agencies in the areas of mental health, spirituality, and HIV disease. He participated in the White House Office on National AIDS Policy Summit.

Dr. Miller has held visiting professor appointments at Addis Ababa University, The University of Gondar and Barhir Dar University (Ethiopia) and The University of The Western Cape in Cape Town South Africa as well as The Center for AIDS Prevention Studies, University of California, and San Francisco Medical School.

In his downtime, he enjoys white water rafting.
