What is the SUNY University Center Endowment Match?

New York State has established a limited-time program that provides $1 in matching funds for every $2 of qualifying gifts to the endowments of the four SUNY university centers. The potential benefits for UAlbany—and the opportunities for donors—are unprecedented.

What gifts are eligible for matching funds?

Gifts of $10,000+ to UAlbany’s endowment initially made or pledged after May 12th, 2023 are eligible for matching funds. The program will continue until April 1, 2026.

Eligible gifts include donations from individuals, donor advised funds, foundations, and corporations. Gifts can be made as cash or as pledges payable over multiple years.

Gifts must be directed to endowment. They can create new endowments or add to existing endowments. They can support student scholarships; faculty excellence; groundbreaking research; and a broad range of other priorities that sustain and advance UAlbany’s mission.

What will the matching funds support?

The option to direct matching funds to the endowment supported by the donor’s gift is available for gifts of $35,000+. Gifts at lower levels can be designated to a general endowment whose purpose aligns with the priority supported by the donor’s gift. The UAlbany advancement team will work closely with the donor to accomplish the donor’s goals.
