The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Albany has 28 departments and over four hundred faculty members. It offers graduate programs leading to the following degrees and certificates: Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Regional Planning, Master of Fine Arts, Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Arts, Certificate of Advanced Standing, and Certificate (selected fields).
Graduate programs in the Humanities and Fine Arts lead to the degrees of Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts, Doctor of Arts, Doctor of Philosophy, and to the Certificate of Advanced Study and the Certificate. They are offered by the Departments of Art, Classics, East Asian Studies, English, French Studies, Hispanic and Italian Studies, Judaic Studies, Linguistics and Cognitive Science, Music, Philosophy, Slavic Languages and Literatures, Theatre, and Women's Studies. Programs leading to master's degrees in the following fields are available: Classics, English, French, Philosophy, Russian, Spanish, Studio Art (M.A. and M.F.A.), Theatre, and Liberal Studies. A doctoral program leading to the D.A. in Humanistic Studies and Ph.D. programs in English, French Studies, Philosophy, and Spanish are offered. Graduate programs leading to the Certificate in Women and Public Policy and the Certificate of Advanced Study in Russian translation are also offered.
Graduate programs in Science and Mathematics lead to the degrees of Master of Arts, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy. They are offered by the Departments of Atmospheric Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geological Sciences, Mathematics and Statistics, and Physics. (Undergraduate interdisciplinary majors in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and in Human Biology are available.) Programs leading to a master's degree are available in the following fields: Atmospheric Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics. Doctoral programs leading to the Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics are also offered.
Graduate programs in the Social and Behavioral Sciences lead to the degrees of Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Regional Planning, Doctor of Philosophy, and the Certificate. They are offered by the Departments of Africana Studies, Anthropology, Communication, East Asian Studies, Economics, Geography and Planning, History, Psychology, Latin American, Caribbean and U.S. Latino Studies, and Sociology. Programs leading to a master's degree are available in the following fields: Africana Studies, Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Latin American, Caribbean and U.S. Latino Studies, Psychology, Regional Planning, Rhetoric and Communication, Social Studies, and Sociology. (A Master's Degree Program in Political Science is given by the Graduate School of Public Affairs.) Certificate programs in Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies, Geographical Information Systems and Spatial Analysis, Public History, Regulatory Economics, and Demography are also offered within the College. Doctoral programs leading to the Ph.D. in Anthropology, Economics, History, Psychology, and Sociology are also available. (A Ph.D. program in Political Science is given by the Graduate School of Public Affairs.)
