Application Instructions
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis — meaning they are reviewed as they are received. Our Early Action Deadline is November 1. Our Regular Admission Deadline is March 1.
For priority consideration, please submit your application as early as possible.
Apply using either the State University of New York (SUNY) Application or the Common Application. Note: If you apply after May 1, you must use the SUNY Application.
All applicants must submit the application fee at the time of application.
All first-year (freshmen) applicants must also complete the 250- to 500-word essay component of either the Common Application or the SUNY Supplemental Application.
Conditional Admissions
If you don't meet the English language test score requirements for undergraduate admission (see Step 3 below), we encourage you to instead apply for conditional admission.
UAlbany offers conditional undergraduate admission to applicants who enroll in the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) to improve their English before becoming as a degree-seeking student.
To apply for conditional admission, please complete the full admissions application process (Steps 1 through 6). You must also complete an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) application and pay the IELP application fee.
All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.
-
First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.
-
Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.
If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.
Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.
Transcript(s) should be sent directly from your high school either electronically or by mail to:
Office of International Admissions & Recruitment
University at Albany Science Library G 40
1400 Washington Avenue
Albany, NY 12222 USA
Transcript Evaluation
A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants.
Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.
Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.
You are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores but you may choose to submit them to strengthen your application. UAlbany's SAT code is 2532 and ACT code is 2926.
If you attended or are attending high school in the United States, or if English is your native language, you are not required to submit English proficiency scores but you may choose to submit them to strengthen your application.
If you attended high school outside the U.S. and English is not your native language, you must submit English proficiency scores. Any of the following tests will be considered:

UAlbany will award up to 30 credits to students who have completed the requirements for an IB Diploma with a cumulative score of at least 30 — including both Standard Level and Higher Level exams — and no score lower than a 4 (satisfactory).
Credits for students with an IB diploma will be awarded as follows:
-
12 to 24 credits, with assigned course credit equivalents, on a course-by-course basis for Higher Level courses completed with a score from 4 (satisfactory) to 7 (excellent)
-
6 to 18 credits, assigned as elective credit, for completing the remaining Standard Level courses and Extended Essay requirement
For students who did not complete an IB diploma, but who did complete IB subjects at the Higher Level and earned a score between 4 (satisfactory) and 7 (excellent), UAlbany will consider awarding credit and/or placement on a course-by-course basis.
The following lists the UAlbany equivalents for students who participate in an IB curriculum at their high school. In order to receive credit, students should work with their high school guidance office to ensure that an official IB transcript is sent upon graduation to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University at Albany.

If a student designates the University at Albany on their AP exam answer sheet, the College Board will send AP Grade Reports to UAlbany in July. Students can also send AP scores to UAlbany after they complete the exam.
Each AP Grade Report is cumulative and includes the student’s grades for all AP exams taken, unless the student requests one or more grades be withheld or cancelled. Learn more about AP Score Reporting Services.
