Spring 2019 LLC Activities
All are welcome to LLC’s many extracurricular activities, including LLC SeminarsLLC Clubs and Tables, and other events.
It is with great sadness that we announce the death on October 23 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida of our colleague Maurice Westmoreland.

A child of the mid-west, Maurice grew up in Iowa, received his BA from Lawrence University (Wisconsin), his MA and PhD in Spanish linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and completed three years on the faculty at Ohio State before coming to Albany. As member of the Program in Hispanic Studies, he taught Spanish and linguistics from 1990-2018 and served as department chair from 2014-2017. Over the years, he taught hundreds of students, and his sense of fairness and his dedication to their success has been an inspiration to us all.  Indeed, having served on every Spanish linguistics PhD committee during this time, his commitment to students in our graduate program was especially noteworthy.

Please join us a gathering to honor his memory on Saturday, December 8 from 3:00 - 4:00pm in the Alumni House, (UAlbany Uptown Campusmap here. We also welcome donations to the Maurice J. Westmoreland Award for Excellence in Hispanic Graduate Studies which we established upon his retirement and plan to confer annually to an outstanding graduate student selected by the Spanish faculty.
